Owner Spotlight: Anthony Cusimano
I’m Anthony Cusimano, proud owner of Cusimano Professional Corporation Chartered Professional Accountant.
I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.
As a child, I developed a keen interest in business and numbers as my siblings, and I had one of the biggest paper routes in Toronto when I was still in grade school. As I grew older, my interest in numbers increased, and I wanted to help other business people in developing their businesses and dealing with the complexities and challenges of the same.
I have been in public accounting since 1980 and started out at an International Public accounting firm. I then moved to a local Toronto Chartered Accountancy (CA) firm where I ‘got my feet wet’ in really getting involved with small growing businesses. I then moved to a larger CA firm where I obtained extensive experience in the real estate development business. I subsequently joined one of my clients who owned a totally ‘integrated real estate’ development company that was developing real estate in the Greater Toronto area. I lived and breathed real estate accounting, tax, and tax planning for seven years and became an expert in the field.
In 2002, I decided to forge out on my own again and set up my sole proprietorship to deal with entrepreneurial small businesses. Today, my business looks more at the ‘overall picture’ of a client, both at year end and during the year. At first, I was mostly doing compliance work while today I am more of a ‘total business advisor’ to many clients. I act as a chief financial officer to many clients that do not have the capability themselves or with their own bookkeepers.
My philosophy is to treat all my clients as I would like to be treated myself. I treat them all as I would my own family. I take all my clients seriously and strive to do the best for them. I take a holistic approach to maximizing their well being, by relying on my professionalism, experience, honesty, and integrity. I am always open with my clients, and my abilities have earned me multiple referrals from satisfied clients.
I feel gratified when I can help a client better understand the financial and income tax side of their business and then implement strategies to help them grow and save income taxes in a ‘holistic approach.’ I also derive immense satisfaction from seeing the successful implementation of either business or income tax strategies that I have recommended to clients. The most rewarding part of owning my business is the flexibility but also the challenges that it offers me.
When I am not at work, I like to spend time with my family. I have a wife and two adult children who are pursuing their own professional careers. I love photography, traveling to different parts of the world. I have also had a keen interest in the Public Stock Markets from an early age and continue to follow the latest trends and ups and downs.
As a family, cancer has ravaged our home. My sister in law passed away from cancer at a young age with five young children and her oldest son subsequently passed away with a brain tumor at the age of fourteen. To help other people successfully battle this sickness, I support local charities that support the fight against cancer.
I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
